Key Concept: The 16-Digit Reference Number

Before making any payment, you need a 16-digit Reference Number made up of:

[Payee Code — first 8 digits] + [Payment Code — next 8 digits

The order matters — reversing it will cause payment failure.

How Students Get Their Reference Number

Part 1 — Get Your Payee Code (First 8 digits)

1. Open your browser and go to  https://sis.jfn.ac.lk
2. Log in using your:
   • Email address that was registered during your University Enrollment process
   • Your password
3. Once logged in, find your 8-digit Student Code
4. This is your Payee/Student Code — note it down

Part 2 — Get Your Payment Code (Last 8 digits)

Each type of payment has its own unique 8-digit Payment Code. You need to find the correct one for your specific payment purpose.

1. Go to your Faculty website 
2. Look for the Payment Code for your specific payment purpose
   • (e.g. exam fees, registration fees, etc.)
3. It will be the 8-digit Payment Code

Part 3 — Combine to Form the Full Reference Number

Simply join both codes in the correct order:

[Payee Code (8 digits)] + [Payment Code (8 digits)] = Your 16-digit Reference Number

Payment Steps – University Online Payment System

Payment Method 1 — University Website (Pay Online)

• • Go to the university payment website: https://pay.jfn.ac.lk
  • Enter your 16-digit Reference Number [Payee Code (8 digits) + Payment Code (8 digits)]
  • Click “Verify”
    • ✅ Valid → you may proceed
    • ❌ Invalid → the Next button stays inactive; recheck your number
  • Confirm the payee and payment details
  • Enter your full name
  • Enter your NIC or Passport number
  • Enter your mobile number
  • Enter the payment amount
  • Click “Next”
  • Choose your payment method:
    • Card Payment → enter your card details and complete
    • QR Payment → scan the QR code using any banking app and complete within 120 seconds

• A confirmation page will appear — print or save it and submit a copy with your documents if required

Payment Method 2 — Online Bank Transfer

1. Log in to your personal online banking or mobile banking app
2. Initiate a transfer to the University of Jaffna, Peoples Bank Account Number
3. In the Reference or Remarks field, enter your 16-digit Reference Number exactly
4. Complete the transfer

📌 For foreign remittances (programmes, projects, scholarships, donations from abroad): contact the Finance Branch before transferring to get the Account Number, Reference Number, and SWIFT code — the bank will not accept foreign payments without these.

Payment Method 3 — Counter Payment (People’s Bank Only)

1. Visit any People’s Bank branch
2. At the counter, use your 16-digit Reference Number in the account number column
3. Fill in the following details on the deposit slip:
   • Payer Name
   • Payer Address
   • Payer NIC Number
   • Payer Contact Number
4. Submit and complete the deposit
